Bismillah Festival Due at Niavaran The Eighth Bismillah Festival will be held at Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural Complex on August 4. Announcing this, Mohammad Reza Kamarei, the festival’s secretary, told Mehr News Agency that the event covers a variety of themes such as resistance, Ashura and Ramadan. Ashura is the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS)--the third Shiite Imam--his family members, and his 72 companions in Karbala plains, Iraq. Artists from 15 countries such as Canada, Afghanistan, Jordon, Bangladesh and Pakistan are participating in the event. Iran’s Bismillah festivals display works by Iranian and international artists who illustrate Persian, Arabic, English and French versions of the Arabic word, ‘Bismillah’. ‘Bismillah’ is used as the collective name of the phrase ‘Bismellah Al-Rahman Al-Rahim’ meaning ‘In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful’. The festival runs through August 14.
